Poverty: The Role of Micro-Finance

Ever since Muhammad Yunus created the Grameen Bank as a means of helping the very poor people of Bangladesh, micro-finance has become accepted as one of the principal means of combating poverty. The basic idea is that poor people have a reasonable idea about how to make small but definite improvements in their lives: e.g. buying a motor cycle to take goods to market, buying another cow to provide milk and so forth.
