Iain Banks famously or notoriously publishes books set in the real world, often at a bit of a stretch, with those which are science fiction in nature. In part because of the recession, he has taken to hurrying up his schedule a little and this novel, Stonemouth, which is a real world book, seems to come quite closely on the tailcoat of his last – or perhaps the world is just turning more quickly as I become old.
