Is Globalisation Westernisation?

The meaning of ‘globalisation’ varies significantly depending on who is defining  it and what field of human activity the person involved normally inhabits.  However, in popular discourse, there is a well-attested strand of thought that links globalization with westernization  through the prism of modernization. Is such a line of argument valid?
