Why Do People Migrate?

Migration means the movement of people from one place to another: sometimes the  migration involves crossing an international border and sometimes it takes place  within a single country. Sometimes the migration is voluntary and sometimes it  is involuntary. Involuntary migration is usually an example of human  trafficking, which is related to slavery, although it can also happen when the  borders themselves change.

Treme: Control of the Means of Production

One of the principal themes of the early episodes of Series 1 on Treme concerns  control of the means of production. The means of production are those resources  or items which are used in work to create goods and services of value – in the  case of New Orleans, of course, particularly when it comes to Treme, the means  of production tend to be the instruments that musicians use to create the music  for which they are paid. In the wake of the devastating hurricane and flooding  of the city, many characters lose their instruments or other means of production  and their lives are pretty much ruined.
