One of the main problems that entrepreneurs in the Mekong Region face is the lack of quality and value added in local products. It is well-known that the principal way in which East Asian countries have approached the need for rapid economic development has been through developing export industries, yet that effort is hindered when local products do not measure up to international standards and, hence, it is necessary to import semi-finished goods and then export the fully-assembled products.
