Quick Personal Update

I’ve been a little busy since coming back from Singapore the other day but I thought I would just catch up with a few of the things going on here.

First, the revisions for the paper on Thailand’s Recovery from Crisis corrections have been submitted to NIDA Development Journal (together with Khun  Lin Su Yin Maung) and we expect the publication of that soon. Second, revisions to the paper on Irlen Centres in Thailand have been submitted to IMBR (together with Khun Petcharat) and we expect the publication of that in due course. Third, we have received notification that the paper I submitted with Khun Pawana Techavimol about expectations and online computer games has been accepted by the Thammasat International Journal of Science and Technology and that, too, should appear some time in the middle of the year.

Developments continue with the SIU Journal of Management and the webspace has been made available. Over the next couple of days, I will be uploading the relevant material and trying to make the webpage work and then I will make the first official call for papers.

I also received notification today that I have been appointed as Guest Editor of the Asian Academy of Management Journal for a special issue on industrial estates and industrial estate management due to appear in June, 2012. If you are interested in industrial estates, please consider submitting a paper to this special issue.

Recently, I have been trying to collect questionnaires on the national competitiveness of Thailand for the NCR project organized by ICS in Korea. SIU has been taking the lead for doing this in Thailand. If you would like to contribute your opinion on this subject, please drop me a line (jcwalsh@siu.ac.th) and I will gladly send you a copy of the questionnaire.

Finally, I decided this year that I would try to write and publish some fiction. I have often thought about doing this in the past but never made a systematic effort. Well, this year I have tried to be more thorough in the effort to learn the craft and I am quite pleased that I have placed two stories in forthcoming anthologies from the Static Movement people. The first is called ‘An Open Case Is Shut’ and will appear in Weird Cities (that may be a working title); the second is called ‘A Partly Successful Operation’ and will appear in Midnight Train. I will of course announce the publication when the print sees the light of day.

In private life, everyone else seems to be sick. It must be something going around.

Consumer Behaviour Basics: The Antecedent State

Consumers are more likely to buy something when they are in the mood to do so – that is obvious to everyone involved in marketing. Sometimes environmental factors work in your favour and sometimes they do not. Imagine having a fast food concession stall outside of a cinema or some other place of entertainment: if the film, the play or the match has been enjoyable, then people are more likely to be in a good mood and hence more likely to buy what you are offering; but if it has been no good, then customers may just wish to get out of there as soon as possible.
